GUE-UK are pleased to announce that The Dive Shop, Stourbridge, West Midlands, has just been given the status of GUE affiliate. This means that they are committed to supporting GUE’s global mission of education, exploration & conservation. In other words they are now a Midlands based resource for both GUE trained divers and those that wish to seek more information on GUE training and projects.
To kick this off The Dive Shop is hosting a ‘pre-season’ team diving skills workshop and charity BBQ and raffle on Saturday 9th April at Dosthill Quarry. Starting at 10.00 until 16.00 the workshop will be based around two dives and land drills focusing on diver safety through improved team diving skills. The first dive will give you the basics of refined buoyancy and propulsion techniques and then the choice of either a Long hose or SMB workshop. The workshops will be run by TDI instructor Mark Skelton, and GUE Instructor Intern James Sanderson, we’re also expecting support from several more UK GUE divers & instructors.
Its then back to The Dive Shop for a BBQ and raffle in aid of Deptherapy from 17.00 The raffle will be sponsored by Silent Planet and Halcyon Dive Systems. There will also be a number of special bundles on Halcyon Dive Systems equipment available for those that attend. The event is completely free of charge although we would appreciate a donation towards the chosen charity, Deptherapy, which provides rehabilitation through Scuba instruction for disabled military personnel.
The dives are ‘come as you dive’ (OC single or doubles, etc) although there will also be a range of the shop’s gear comprising Halcyon Dive Systems back plates, wings, regulators & SMB’s available for use on the day.
To register, simply join the The Dive Shop Face Book page or contact Mark at the shop directly
We’re very proud to announce that we have two new instructors in the UK. The first is Gareth Burrows, who qualified as a GUE Fundamentals instructor towards the end of last year. Our most recent is Osama Gobara who is now a GUE Rec 1 instructor, and working hard towards achieving his Fundamentals rating.
Both of these instructors have worked really hard, committed a lot of time and energy to obtaining this level, and I’m sure they will be outstanding ambassadors for GUE and the sport of scuba diving. Take a look at their pages on the website, and go ahead and book some classes with them!
15th/16th November, Birmingham
EuroTek.08 is a dedicated emerging Technologies Conference and Exhibition aimed specifically at the European advanced diving community. The show will feature an international cast of speakers and presenters drawn from among the world’s most accomplished diving authorities, a specific advanced diving equipment exhibition showcasing the very best that the world of diving has to offer together with non-stop back to back workshops and seminars. Organised by divers for divers, the EuroTek.08 Conference and Dive Exhibition will offer unique insights into the world of advanced diving by encouraging a better understanding of emerging technologies.
Jarrod Jablonski will be presenting at this event, and GUE will also have a stand, with UK GUE instructors in attendance. This will be a great opportunity to see some excellent presentations from a wide range of technical divers, and also to catch up with old friends. We hope to see you there!

This year for the first time, GUE will have a stand at the London International Dive Show. All of the UK instructors will be there, and as a huge bonus, Jarrod Jablonski will be coming over to give a presentation and also to meet and chat with divers at the show.
This marks the beginning of a new era for GUE in the UK in terms of visible profile, diving activity and teaching capacity.
At the show we are aiming to raise the profile of GUE and provide a face-to-face opportunity for interested divers to come and talk to us about what we’re up to and what we’re all about.
Also on the stand will be posters from some of the more active GUE groups around the UK. This is a great opportunity to see GUE divers out there diving and having fun and in many cases undertaking some interesting project work.
